With many joining the church there was bound to be some questions that they had. The biggest question that arose was what to call the church. Apparently there were many different names proposed and the 12 disciples that had been called to lead the church did not know how to settle the question.
So, they all joined together in prayer one day, asking for an answer to this dilemma. In response Christ again appear to them. When they asked their question he istructed them to call the church after his name, and thus it was called the Church of Christ.
After this Christ asked the 12 what they would each ask of him. Nine of them asked that they might join him as soon as possible in His Kingdom. Christ approved the request and promised them that they would live to be 72 years old, and then they would die and be brought to join him.
The other three were hesitant to ask for what they wanted, but Christ perceived their thoughts and approved the request. So they were promised that they would never die until Christ should return to the earth at the Second Coming. To fulfill this promise the three were changed, or translated, so that the effects of mortality on the body could no longer harm them. They would no longer know physical pain or suffering of any kind.
The Twelve Nephite Disciples are named in the record, and they are as follows:
1. Nephi II, who was the president of the group.
2. Timothy, the brother of Nephi II.
3. Jonas, the son of Nephi II.
4. Mathoni
5. Mathonihah, the borther of Mathoni.
6. Kumen.
7. Kumenonhi.
8. Jeremiah.
9. Shemnon.
10. Jonas.
11. Zedekiah.
12. Isaiah.
While we know the names of all 12 disciples, we are not given the names of the three who were translated, and are actually told that God forbid them from being named in the record.
