At about the same time that Lachoneus I died, the Lord sent many prophets among the people to preach and call them to repentance. None of them are named, though Nephi II was likely among them.
Many of the people were angry with the prophets for their preaching. This was especially true among the Judges, Lawyers, and High Priests. These three groups held most of the political and social power, and were already fairly corrupt. They became very angry at the message of the prophets.
Now, the law would not allow the prophets to be killed, and Lachoneus II was a just man who upheld the law. So these judges, lawyer, and high priests took the prophets in secret and had them killed. From the record it seems that they held secret trials where the men would accused and convicted according to the complaints of the judges, lawyers and high priests.
