Description:
Gidgiddoni was a righteous man and a great prophet among the Nephites. We are told that it was the custom of the Nephites, in times of righteousness, to appoint such men as political and military leaders.
So, Lachoneus choose Gidgiddoni because he was a prophet and a righteous man, and appointed him as Chief Captain over all the armies.
Now, when he was first appointed the people asked him to lead them into the mountains to attack the Robbers. But Gidgiddoni refused, and through his gift of prophecy declared that if they should attack the robbers the Lord would deliver them up to be destroyed.
So he organized the armies to defend the border around the land that had been designated for the gathering of the people.
