jul 22, 1864 - Battle of Atlanta

Description:

This battle ended with a Union victory as the Confederates were trying to hold down the city of Atlanta. Sherman, the Union commander rode to Atlanta and began burning all buildings, military or not. After taking over the city Sherman began the March to the sea in which he would leave a trail of fire all the way to Savannah. Atlanta was a crucial military and supply hub for the Confederacy, so burning the city down was an important victory for the North.
