jan 1, 1863 - The Year of Grant
Description:
Grant's best year was in 1863 because of his success at Vicksburg, where a siege internally crippled the city. Grant brilliantly isolated the city and proved his worth to Lincoln, who described his tactics as "one of the most brilliant in the world." Because of this victory, he was called up in 1864 to assume the role of general in chief.
