Stonewall Jackson gained his nickname after Confederate troops commented on his unwavering appearance during the 1st Battle of Bull Run. During that battle Jackson proved his abilities to effectively fight and maneuver his forces. Jackson later became the right hand man of Robert E. Lee and an important military leader in the Confederacy up until his death in 1863.
