feb 27, 1932 - Phase Contrast Microscope

Description:

Frits Zernike developed a method which allowed for transparent objects (such as cells) to be imaged, which was previously impossible without the use of methods using dye. This process is called phase contrast illumination. Usually the retention of light is used, but instead interference is applied.
