Description:
When the people began to repent they also began to understand what had caused their suffering. They knew that it was the Gadianton Robbers who had caused the war, and they realized their own complicity in supporting them.
Those who sought repentance realized that it was because of this band that God had sent the war and famine to punish them. Thus, to make restitution for their sins, they began to seek out and destroy the Gadianton Robbers.
By the end of the year the robbers had been completely annihilated. Only then did the people go to Nephi and ask him to petition the Lord to end the Famine.
Nephi, seeing their humility and repentance, and knowing that they had destroyed the band of robbers, agreed. He went to the Lord in prayer and laid before him the sincerety of the people's repentance and secured from the Lord the end of the famine.
