jan 1, 1916 - After Russia’s failings on the eastern front, Rasputin was blamed for corrupting the royal family, and was eventually assassinated. Nikolas as the head of the army was seen responsable for the failure of the war. War fatigue and food shortages led to protest which Nikolas had hoped to put down with the army. But the army joined the protests. In order to calm the situation some Russian generals met with Nikolas and urged him to abdicate.
