Bloodiest single-day battle in the history of the Civil War. Occurred near Sharpsburg, Maryland. Union victory. The terrain made it hard to fight and monitor for the Union, as it led McClellan to complain about sore-tongued and fatigued horses. However, Lee was forced to retreat back to VA.
