The Ottoman empire was an Islamic empire that covered Anatolia, The Levant, and the North African coast of the Mediterranean at its peak under Suleiman the Magnificent. The Ottoman Empire’s military made use of janissaries, which were very controversial. Christian Boys were taken from conquered towns in the Balkans, and forced to convert to Islam and join the military. Janissaries were highly skilled, highly loyal fighters and could even get government positions after their service.
