Description:

Tokugawa Ieyasu was shogun during this time and established a military government, known as the Tokugawa bakufu, that sought to ensure stability and stop the return of another civil war. The shogun required that the daimyo family stay within Edo and spend every other year at the Tokugawa court in order to maintain control of them as they were practically absolute rulers of their provinces. This action was similar to King Louis’ actions in France with his nobles/elites. (4.3)
