1618 CE - 1648 CE The Thirty Years’ War was a religious conflict that started due to the Holy Roman emperor attempting to force his Bohemian subjects to return to the Roman Catholic church. Other lands soon entered the conflict including the Spanish, French, Dutch, and German due to political, economic, and or religious motives. The war war primarily fought in Germany (the emperor’s territory) and had an estimated eight million casualties making it one of the most devastating conflicts in human history. (4.3)
