Earlier iterations of pinball existed before 1950, however the flipper mechanisms on modern day pinball which is used to hit the ball back up was created in the 1950's. Earlier versions of pinball did not use electronics as they were not necessary which means that earlier versions were very limited in what they could do and graphically display, but more modern versions of pinball use electronics to calculate score, remember high scores and use an LED display. There are a range of well known titles that have pinball machines designed around them, some titles including Rambo, Guardians of the Galaxy and Batman.
