jun 27, 1519 - Spanish conquest of Mexico/Aztecs (1519 C.E.-1521 C.E.)

Description:

The Spanish conquest of Mexico/the Aztecs began in 1519 when Hernan Cortez surrounded the city of Tenochtitlan with a small navy and an army of 45o soldiers. He then proceeded to starve out the city, not allowing goods and items to come in and by 1521 the city surrendered. This was also made possible by the natives, as well as the spread of disease. Cortez made alliances with the natives that were not content with the ruling party of the Aztecs and were able to push off the natives that were not on board with the Spanish. Also, the city was already weakened by the spread of Smallpox, which had arrived long before the Spanish did. (4.3)
