oct 3, 1935 - Second Italo-Ethiopian War

Description:

This was a colonial war fought until February 19, 1937. It resulted in Ethiopia being subjected to Italy's rule. The Abyssinians could not hope to stand up to a modern army; the Italians used armored vehicles and mustard gas in their attack. The capital, Addis Ababa, fell in May 1936 and Haile Selassie was removed from the throne and replaced by Victor Emmanuel, King of Italy. Somaliland, Eritrea and Abyssinia were all united under the name Italian East Africa. This war proved the ineffectiveness of the League of Nations.
