jul 11, 1835 - Port of Canton
Description:
Canton (traditionally known as Guangzhou) is a prominent Chinese port city that was a major source of European opium in the 1800s. The Treaty of Nanking made it a treaty port, and it received a wide range of foreign merchants - local Chinese eventually worked menial labor as foreigners profited. This led to growing anti-foreign sentiment in China.
