aug 1, 1932 - U.S. Occupation of Haiti Ends

Description:

In 1932, the slow process of disengagement came to an end, with Borno’s regime intact and dissidents attempting to fill the power vacuum left by the US withdrawal. Through a mixture of political repression and sound economic policy with the support of US advisers, the Haitian economy experienced a brief period of prosperity after independence and the Haitian national debt remained remarkably low. While dissent declined on the whole due to economic success, Borno was still viewed as an American puppet and anti-American Socialists, Democrats, and Nationalists remained disgruntled.
