Description:
The Battle of Vicksburg marks an incredible victory for the north. Field commander Grant successfully took control of the Confederate stronghold in Vicksburg along the Mississippi, granting the Union power over the important river. Controlling the Mississippi not only starved the Confederacy of much needed resources but also (and more importantly) effectively split the south in half.
