feb 15, 250 BC - Astronomical Book of Enoch ~

Description:

Also called the "book of the Luminaries," this treatise on cosmic and astronomical phenomena was assumed into the Ethiopic book of Enoch (1 Enoch) as chapters 72-82. It is "one of the oldest sections of the collection, dating back at least well into the third century BCE" (Nickelsburg 2005: 44)

The date of 250 BCE on this map is purely schematic, representing this text's early composition <<somewhere>> in the third cent. BCE. For the dates of the individual Qumran MSS (4Q208-211), we can sketch a relative chronology, on the basis of paleography, that situates 4Q208 at the end of the third / beginning of the second century BCE, 4Q210
and 4Q211 in the middle of the first century BCE, and 4Q209 at the turn of the
eras (see VanderKam, "Book of the Luminaries," in Nickelsburg & VanderKam 2012 [i.e., the Hermeneia commentary])
