The Berlin Conference began when fourteen European countries met -without Africa- to discuss dividing Africa among themselves.- France took over Guinea and Germany occupied South West Africa, Togoland, and Cameroons. In that year as well, the Maxim guns were invented, which helped the Europeans conquer Africa.
