Description:
Up until 1868 Japan was ruled over by a long line of military governments called Shogunates or Bakafu’s (the longest being the Tokugawa Shogunate, lasting for 200 years). Japan was used to and longed to be ruled by a warrior class (Samurai). When the Emperor resumed control in 1868 a constitution was written up which dissolved the Samurai and gave a Diet (Parliament) and made the Emperor a powerful constitutional Monarch.
