Description:
Following the end of the French and Indian War, the Stamp Act imposed a heavy direct tax on any printed material, such as official documents, newspapers, playing cards and more to pay off debts of the war. This caused outrage about the colonists. Acts of rebellion spread throughout the colonies and the formation of the Sons of Liberty - joined by the Daughters of Liberty - came about in response to the Stamp Act. Royal assent on March 22, 1765 and commencement on November 1, 1765, the act was repealed on March 18, 1766.
