jul 1, 1776 - Declaration of Independence

Description:

The Declaration of Independence was written by Thomas Jefferson and it stated that the 13 colonies would have independence from Great Britain. The Declaration was actually signed on July 1, 1776 in Philadelphia; but it was approved on the 4th of July which is what Americans celebrate today. It says that people have rights that cannot be taken away and it lists the complaints that the colonists had against the king. "All mean are created equal" is one major right that the colonist felt the king violated. Back then, this right only applied to white men, but now it is applied to all genders, races, and religions. At the bottom of the document, the delegate signed their name.
