sep 11, 63 BC - Battle of Manti

Description:

When Helaman realized that they would receive no further support from the government he resolved to take the City of Manti by stratagem; Manti being the southern most city of the Nephites.
The Nephites marched to the city and camped near it. That night Helaman had Gid take a small army and hide on the right side, and he had a man named Teomner take another small army and hide on the left.

In the morning, when the Lamanites saw the small force that Helaman had kept in the original camp, they sent out almost their entire army to pursue them. Helaman, when they Lamanites came out, fled into the wilderness.

When the Lamanites had passed between them, Gid and Teonmer took their spies captive, and then returned to the city. As there were only a few guards remaining they were able to subdue them and take the city.

The Lamanite army continued to pursue Helaman until they realized that he was leading them right into the heart of the Land of Zarahemla. Fearing a trap they turned around and headed back to Manti. However, night fell before they reached it and so they made camp.

Helaman, knowing the Lamanites had made camp, ordered his men to march around them through the night, and join the others in the City of Manti.
When the Lamanites came to the city the next day they found it in the possession of the Nephites. In fear the entire army fled into the wilderness.
Thus the city was taken without the shedding of blood.
