jul 3, 65 BC - 1st Battle of Antiparah

Description:

After receiving provisions from the people of Ammon, as well as another 2,000 troops from Zarahemla, Antipus felt secure enough to go against the Lamanites.

He was not comfortable sending the sons of Ammon into battle, as they were young and untrained in fighting. So, he ordered Helaman to use them as a diversion, marching close to the city of Antiparah.
When the Lamanites saw the small force of young men they left the city and pursued them. The sons of Ammon fled north, and the Lamanites followed. Antipus then followed the Lamanites with the main Nephite army under his command.
When the Lamanites saw Antipus pursuing them they marched faster to catch Helaman, hoping to destroy them before they had to face Antipus.

This chase continued until the third day, being the 3rd day of 7th month. On this day Helaman and the sons of Ammon noticed that the Lamanites had given up the pursuit. After consulting with the young men it was decided that they would return and find out why, so that they could help Antipus if necessary.

So, these stripling warriors returned in time to save the army of Antipus, who were about to be overwhelmed by the Lamanites. They fought with courage and none were killed.

The Nephites won the battle, destroying the largest and most powerful Lamanite army in the west. However, Antipus was killed in the action, and Helaman took command of the armies in that quarter.

The first thing they did is to send all the Lamanites that they had taken prison to the Land of Zarahemla.
