oct 12, 66 BC - Stripling Warriors

Description:

When the people of Ammon saw the struggles of the Nephites and great loss they had suffered at the hands of the Lamanites, they were moved with compassion. Even though they had vowed never to take up arms 11 years earlier, they were willing to break this covenant in order to send aid to the Nephites, whom they greatly loved.
However, Heleman, now being the High Priest, feared that if they did it would cause them to loose their salvation. So he persuaded them not to take up arms.

In response to this 2,000 young men among them stood forward and volunteered to join the army. These young men had been too young to enter into the covenant of their parents, thus the oldest of them was likely 18 (making them 7 when the covenant was first made). They likely ranged between 16-18 years old.

So, sometime after Moroni had left the western lands Helaman joined Antipus, who was the commander in the west. He brought with him his 2,000 stripling warriors, which was a great aide to Antipus, who had been struggling in that quarter of the war.
This timely arrival of Helaman also discouraged the Lamanites from attacking the city of Judea, where Anitpus was headquartered.
