Joyce Carol Oates grew up in the country outside Lockport, New York. Her working-class background is often recalled in her fiction. As one of Americas most outstanding writers, she was published more than forty books ranging from literary criticism to poems, plays, and novels.
In "Blonde" (2000) she tells in her own special way the life of Marlyn Monroe. Joyce Carol Oates has also taught literary at Princeton University.
