jan 1, 1837 - Oliver Twist by Charles DIcknes

Description:

Oliver Twist
1 We know they are starved when one child was ready to eat another child also the children would sit and stare at the copper with eager eyes. Not least we find out that the boys have been starving for 3 months.
2 Oliver is chosen to speak with the master and beg for more food.
3 I believe Oliver's request caused such a commotion because masters/ higher standing individuals in that society weren’t used to being talked back to since they were the powerful types. However when servers/ young kids upset the masters, they sold the kids to other buyers to hang them or make them servants for someone else.
4 I think someone may buy Oliver and treat him better than his previous master.
5 I believe Charles Dickens was criticizing the society's treating towards others both physically and mentally also the shortage of food to the ones actually needing it.
6 Yes it does, for example when Oliver asked for more and Mr. Limbkins answered with “Do I understand that he asked for more, after he had eaten the supper allotted by the dietary?” I interpret this quote that we in today's society misunderstand the “dietary” and sometimes go on a diet to starve because we think it would help us lose weight. That is how we think it is done however back then people from higher standing thought of poor people as animals and that giving food was enough and even too much for them. Meaning this was one similarity between today and Oliver Twist.
