Description:
Lincoln Assassinated- April 15, 1865
On the night of April 14th, 1865, President Lincoln was at Ford’s Theatre in Washington D.C., to attend the performance of “Our American Cousin” and was surprisingly assassinated by John Wilkes Booth. This attack was only five days after General Lee surrendered to General Grant at Appomattox Court House, which ended the Civil War. Booth came up with a mastermind plan to kill Lincoln. Lincoln was in a private booth to watch the performance, and even after coming in late, he was having a great time. Booth snuck into the Lincoln’s private booth at 10:15 P.M. and shot the President in the back of his head. Then leaped on to the stage and disappeared. Luckily, a doctor attended the performance and found Lincoln paralyzed from the shot and struggling to breathe in his chair. Lincoln was rushed across the street and a surgeon concluded that Lincoln would die soon, probably during the night. He was pronounced dead at 7:22 A.M. the next day, on April 15th, 1865.
