Description:

As technology and branded products spread to the masses of the 20th century, corporations discovered a new target for their advertising: the youth. By creating child-friendly commercials and propaganda, companies realized that they were both influencing a family’s current purchasing decisions and creating loyal lifelong customers. This tactic proved incredibly effective, and early exposure to some advertisements allowed children to subconsciously develop unhealthy and even harmful habits. The methods of these companies directly generated the rise of the child consumer, along with trends of alcoholism, smoking, and obesity in the 20th century and beyond. Showing no sign of restraint, the government was eventually forced to step in to regulate advertisers intentionally targeting children.
