nov 1, 1955 - Vietnam War (Nov 1, 1955 – Apr 30, 1975)
Description:
France had imperial control over Vietnam for 30 years. 1885, Vietnam had come under centralized French control. Over time the French introduced westernization. There were armed Japanese troops still in charge of territory throughout Asia and the Pacific. Ho Chi Minh was the leader of the Viet Minh, which was a Vietnamese nationalist party with communist leadership. From 1941, he had led a
small guerrilla force against the Vichy French and against the Japanese, and they received American support. As the Japanese withdrew, even before the French could send troops, Ho and the Viet Minh proclaimed independence on September 2, 1945. It resulted in the Declaration of Independence on the American document of 1776.
