This 1951 ad displays children's early exposure to cigarettes. Not only is s/he in awe of the product, the mother on the left is glad to see that her child notices it and encourages the habit. With endorsement from a "parent," youth were led to believe that is was acceptable.
Since then, the country has become increasingly aware of the detriments of smoking. In 2009, the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act, which now regulates the marketing of tobacco products.
