jul 26, 63 BC - Battle of Gid

Description:

The Lamanites had taken all the prisons from the Nephites and kept them under guard in the City of Gid. This information was known to Moroni, and when the negotiations for prisoner exchange broke down, he turned his attention to freeing the prisoners.

When he first brought his army up against the city he knew that a direct attack would not be effective, as the city was too well defended. Actually, as it had been a Nephite City, it's defenses had been designed by Moroni.

So, in the still of the night Moroni crept up onto the city wall and tossed weapons in to the prisoners. Every Nephite that was able to carry a weapon was armed, including the woman.

When dawn came the Lamanites found that they were completely surrounded, both inside and outside the city, by well armed and determined Nephites. So, the Lamanites surrendered without any fight.

The City of Gid was taken without a single death on either side.
