jun 1, 63 BC - Prisoner Exchange II

Description:

After failing to secure a prisoner exchange with Helaman, sent an epistle to Moroni desire to exchange prisoners.

This initial epistle that opened the negotiations is not recorded. All that is known is that Ammoron is the one that opened the negotiations, as he wanted to get back the many thousands of his warriors that had been captured.

Moroni replied that he was willing to exchange prisoners, on the condition that for every Lamanite warrior released, a full Nephite family would be released. This was done largely because the Nephites had taken only warriors prisoner, but the Lamanites (as the invaders) had taken everyone prisoner.
In this epistle Moroni also censured Ammoron, called him to repentance, and told him to end the unjust war.

Ammoron replied back to this, accepting the conditions of the exchange. However, he reviled Moroni, denied God, and claimed the cause of the war to be just, saying that they simply wanted to restore the right of their ancestor, Laman (son of Lehi).

When Moroni received this reply he became angry at Ammoron's lies and stubborness and refused to make any exchange of prisoners.
