may 1, 64 BC - Battle of Mulek

Description:

After setting the army in order in the west Moroni marched back east to join Teancum. Teancum had been trying to find a way of taking the city of Mulek, but had judged that his own forces were no sufficient for the task. After Moroni joined him all the captains met in counsel and laid out a plan that was successful.

Teancum, taking a small army, marched near the city so that the Lamanites in the city could see them. Believing them to be a small army, the Lamanites (led by a Zoramite named Jacob) came out to destroy them. On seeing this Teancum ordered his men to flee to Bountiful.

Once the Lamanites left the city Moroni moved the rest of the army to take Mulek, killing or capturing the few guards that remained.

When the Lamanites who pursued Teancum came near Bountiful they were met by the army of Lehi, who were fresh and ready for battle. Fearing this new army, as they were fatigued, the Lamanites fled in confusion, hoping to reach Mulek before Lehi reached them.
This resulted in the Lamanites being surrounded by Lehi and Moroni (who was in the city). Jacob inspired the Lamanites to fight for a while, but soon Jacob was killed in the battle and the Lamanites surrendered.

Thus one of the strongest armies of the Lamanites was defeated. It is also interesting to note that there were more Lamanite prisoners than there were Lamanites killed.

After the battle of Mulek Moroni set guards on the Lamanites prisoners, and compelled them to do the work of burying the dead.
After all the dead had been buried, Teancum marched the prisoners back to Bountiful were they were put to work repairing and strengthening the fortifications of that city.
