apr 5, 1933 - CCC

Description:

The civilian conservation corps also known as the CCC was a work relief program during the Great Depression. President Franklin D. Roosevelt established the Civilian Conservation Corps with an executive order on April 5, 1933. This gave millions of young men employment opportunities on environmental conservation projects in national parks. This was a part of Roosevelt's New Deal legislation and is known to be one of the most successful programs. It combined Roosevelt's interests in conservation and universal service for youth. The CCC planted more than three billion trees and constructed trails and shelters in more than 800 parks nationwide, which helped to shape the modern national and state park systems we have today.
