Description:

The harlem renaissance was a social movement that lasted from the 1910’s through the 1930’s. During the time of the Great Migration many black families moved to Harlem New York, it was there where an expansion of intellectual, artistic, and social ideals that were rooted in African-American culture took place this time is also known as the golden age of African American culture. Some leaders in this movement included Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington who were inventive artists in Jazz. Josephine Baker was a musician and dancer, the first black woman to be a famous entertainer. There were also social activists who had great influence over this time such as, Marcus Garvey, W.E.B. Dubois, and Langston Hughes. These people and this movement gave African Americans pride and a sense of identity.
