he French and Indian War was also known widely as the Seven Years’ War due to its’ seven year duration. France’s expansion into the Ohio River Valley, in the early 1750’s, repeatedly brought conflict with the claims of the British colonies. These series of battles led to the official British declaration of war in 1756. The war ended with a peace conference on February 10, 1763, where the British received Canada from France, Florida from Spain, allowed France to keep the West Indian sugar islands and lastly gave Louisiana to Spain.
