feb 1, 1804 - Locomotive - 1st operated on February 1, 1804

Description:

Richard Trevithick produced the very first “high pressure” steam powered locomotive engine on rails. This bulky machine was able to carry tons of goods from place to place and led to the huge monopolistic expansion of the railway industry. It changed mankind's relationship with time and space by the huge quantities it could carry to their destination at an efficient time. Men like Cornelius Vanderbilt profited immensely by this invention because of his monopoly of the American railroad and shipping industry. Locomotive, or trains, are still commonly used today.
