Description:
Amalikiah, taking advantage of the internal strike of the Nephites, moved up the eastern side of the Nephite lands, conquering many cities, and driving the Nephites before them.
When they approached the Land of Bountiful they were headed by the army of Teancum. This is the same Teancum who put down the Morianton Rebellion. He was a great military leader and a righteous man.
The army of Teancum checked the Lamanite advance and the two camped that night, waiting the battle that would begin the following day.
That night, Teancum, feeling a high amount of righteous indignation at the wickedness of Amalikiah, took one of his servants and snuck into the camp of the Lamanites. He found the tent of the King and drove a javelin through the heart of Amalikiah, killing him instantly.
Teancum then returned to his own army, and fearing that the Lamanites would discover what was done, he roused his men and had them prepare for an assault.
But the Lamanites did not discover the death of Amalikiah until morning, and when they saw the Nephites were ready to give them battle, they withdrew.
This was not the end of the war, as the Lamanites still had control of many cities, and while they did not fight Teancum at that time, they maintained these cities.
