may 27, 67 BC - Kingmen Rebellion

Description:

When the Kingmen say that the Lamanites were entering the land they refused to take up arms and fight against them. Their plan was to wait for the Nephites to be spread thin and weakened by fighting the Nephites, and then they would again try to take power in Zarahemla.

When the Kingmen refused to defend the Nephites Moroni sought, and was granted, power to compel them. He marched with his army against the Kingmen, and there was a battle in which many were killed.

In the end Moroni was victorious. He arrested the leaders of the rebellion, throwing them in prison. He did this because he had to hurry to intercept the Lamanites who were already attacking many Nephite cities. He did not have time to conduct a trial.
The rest of the Kingmen, if they swore an oath to defend their lands, were allowed to go free and join the army. Those who would not were imprisoned.
