feb 20, 67 BC - Kingmen Contention

Description:

There soon arose a faction among the Nephites that wanted to alter the law in order to allow for a king. They wanted Pahoran to do this without calling a vote from the people.
Those who wanted these changes made were the lesser judges; men who had been given a small portion of authority and craved more.
Pahoran refused to change the law, however, and so the kingmen tried to win enough people over that they could change the laws through the vote of the people.

Those who opposed the Kingmen became known as freemen, and they sided with Pahoran. When the vote was called the freemen won the day and kingmen retreated from the contention.

This contention likely lasted for several months, and the disputations distracted the people from other concerns.
