jul 21, 1925 - Scopes Trial
Description:
The Scopes Trial, also known as the Scopes Monkey Trial, was the prosecution of a substitute science teacher, John Scopes, who was unlawfully teaching the theory of evolution. The Butler Act stated that teaching the theory of evolution was illegal. The trial was a way to publicly advocate for Darwin’s Evolution Theory, challenge the constitutionality of the bill, and improve the image of the American Civil Liberties Union.
