jul 28, 1914 - World War I Begins
Description:
On July 28, 1914, Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated by a Serbian nationalist in Sarajevo. The assassination essentially marks the beginning of World War I as it lead to many countries entering the war in a chain-like reaction. Although, many historians to this day still analyze and argue over the technical beginning of World War I. The acronym M-A-N-I-A is used to decipher the beginning of World War I; M-A-N-I-A stands for militarism, alliances, nationalism, imperialism, and assassination. The United States entered the war after intercepting the Zimmerman Telegram in 1917, which consisted of Germany encouraging Mexico to attack the United States land from the South. Furthermore, the United States were pushed into the war when many United States citizens were killed with unrestricted submarine warfare.
