feb 6, 1899 - Franco-Spanish Treaty

Description:

Following their defeat in the Spanish American War, the Philippines stood out as the only worthwhile colony of Spain, with their Pacific and African holdings growing less and less important with each passing year.

As a result, Spain sold most of their remaining Colonies in Africa to France. This included the small Rio Muni Colony and the larger Rio de Oro colony. They would still keep the Saguia el-Hamra colony however.

The former of these sales would be established as the colony of Riviere Muni within French Equatorial Africa, while the latter was annexed to Mauritania.
