Description:

The Confederacy surrendered to the Union at the Appomattox Court House in Virginia. After Sherman employed a tactic of total war and torched large portions of the South, the Confederacy did not have enough resources or soldiers to effectively invade the North. Reconstruction began shortly after their surrender.
