jul 4, 1776 - The Declaration of Independence
Description:
The Declaration of Independence was written by Thomas Jefferson and edited by Benjamin Franklin and John Adams. When it was ratified by the Second Continental Congress in Independence Hall, it declared all thirteen colonies sovereignty from British rule. It highlighted all of the King’s abuses enacted against the colonies before promising that “all men are created equal” and therefore have “inalienable rights” such as “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” (1776).
