Description:
The Fourteenth Amendment was ratified as a part of Lincoln’s plan for Reconstruction. It granted citizenship to every person born in the United States, regardless of race or gender. It also stated that every American citizen had a right to equal protection under the law, so it gave liberated slaves federal protection and the right to become active members of society.
