Description:

The skyscraper was invented after the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. Before its development, buildings were tightly-packed, made of wood, and low to the ground. Taller buildings were required to accommodate for the rising urban population. William Le Baron Jenney invented the skyscraper, and the Bessemer Process allowed for steel to be efficiently manufactured.
